Social media rant:
Facebook is the social media I use the most, though I have accounts on Twitter and Linked In. This is not a rant about the downfalls or pitfalls of social media.
Just because I don't post a scripture or something from a devotional every day, doesn't make me less of or a bad christian. Just because every post doesn't talk about how blessed I am or the trial I'm going through, doesn't mean I'm not pressing closer in my relationship with Christ.
Perhaps it just means that I'm trying to live life without being patronizing, or fanatical or "holier than thou". Perhaps it just means that we took a funny picture and wanted to share it or had a great time over dinner with some friends, or one my kids said something funny, or even that I'm feeling down and there's a little part of me that wants someone to cheer me up. And yes, I will post, from time to time and scripture, or song lyric or quote from a devotional that has really struck me at that moment.
I refuse to re-post/share the chain crap (yes, I use that word) that people send my way. It's no different than the chain emails that I also refuse to re-send. And, sharing a post about Christ will not provide money, nor less pain, or whatever else those things promise. If I want more money in my bank account, I need to adjust my budget, curb my spending on unnecessary items, cook at home more, etc. If I want to feel less pain, then I need to take a pill, or lose some weight, etc.
Lastly, if I post something about wine, it's because I do drink alcoholic beverages. I'm not an alcoholic, nor a slush. I doubt I even drink once a month, but once in a while I do enjoy a glass of wine or a margarita. They taste good to me. Nothing more. If I post something about it, it's because it's something I like or would like to try. No different than posting about a new food recipe or place I'd like to visit or activity I'd like to do.
So, enjoy your social media. I'll continue to enjoy mine. But, please let's not make it into what it isn't: another opportunity to judge one another. It isn't. It's just social. media. Nothing more.
